[…] Under the deal, Oracle will buy up to 25% of about 1 gigawatt of electricity that WeEnergies purchases from the Point Beach nuclear plant to serve its data centers. A gigawatt is enough to power around 750,000 homes. The deal comes as the plant has become increasingly costly for We Energy's customers. The Citizens Utility Board said Oracle's move is a step in the right direction, but the ratepayer advocate is worried costs to replace that power could eat into any savings. The utility says the $300 million in savings factors in cost tied to buying less expensive power on the market. The deal still has to be approved by state utility regulators. […]
