[…] It's a hollow spike in the strip, and when the vehicle goes over, the spike comes off the strip and stays in the tire and then gradually allows the tire to go down. So it's not like it punctures the tire straight away. Well, it does puncture it, but it doesn't let it down. It's not like the old days where we used things called cal traps, which used to wrap itself around the axle of a vehicle. These things deflate the tire and should allow it to come down under control. With motorbikes, that's more difficult. But that shouldn't stop the police having the ability to use this when they've conducted a risk assessment and they deem that it mitigates the risk to the public. […]
