[…] Technically, a selective reduction is a different procedure than an abortion. An abortion is usually performed by taking a pill like mifepristone or by surgically removing the entire pregnancy via the vaginal canal. A selective reduction, however, is a much more delicate procedure. There is a small risk, about 5%, but still a risk, of accidentally terminating an entire pregnancy during a reduction.
