About DOPAMINE HITS

You know that feeling when your client looks in the mirror after their spray tan and everything shifts? They stand a little taller… smile a little bigger… just feel like themselves again. Yeah… that feeling? That's what Dopamine Hits is all about. We're three girls who run businesses, make people feel good for a living, and somehow try to keep our own lives together in the process. Katie in Colorado, Lauren in Canada, and Natalie in Texas are here every Friday to talk about the wild, wonderful, sometimes unhinged reality of building a business you actually love. Every week they show up for the wins, the chaos, the stories you genuinely can't make up — and somehow make entrepreneurship feel fun again. Good laughs, good company, and just enough insight to make you feel dangerously motivated. Because you spend all day making other people feel good… this is your turn. New episodes every Friday. We'll see you there.

Is Everything Just a Sales Pitch Now?

Is it just us, or does everything feel like a sales pitch lately? This week on Dopamine Hits Podcast, we're talking about social media fatigue, affiliate marketing, and the challenges of running a spray tan business when bookings slow down. We get into the growing world of sunless education, why investing in the right training matters, and whether all those skincare ingredients are actually doing what brands claim. Plus, we're exploring how AI and SEO are changing the way clients find businesses, sharing our own marketing struggles, and, as always, getting completely sidetracked along the way. Whether you're a new spray tan artist or an experienced business owner, there's plenty to unpack in this one!

   Packages, Branding, Clients + More

Lauren is missing from this one, so it’s just Katie + Natalie catching up on business, life, and all the random things currently taking up space in our brains. We’re talking about what’s actually working when it comes to selling packages, why the timing of an offer matters so much, and how to make more sales without making your clients feel like they’re being sold to. We also get into client retention, branding your solutions in a way that makes them feel more exciting, looking at your business through your client’s eyes, and why we both think secret shopping your own business might be one of the smartest things you can do. And naturally, we bounce around a little. We’re also chatting about moving, routines, weddings, motherhood, money, equipment maintenance and everything else that somehow makes its way into a business-owner conversation. We get into: Selling packages without feeling pushy The best time to present an offer to a client Creating more repeat clients Selling through connection instead of pressure Branding and naming your spray tan solutions Secret shopping your own client experience Destination and intimate wedding trends Cleaning and maintaining your spray tan equipment Money, spending and payment options Motherhood, routines and running a business through different seasons of life Basically, this episode is one big business catch-up between two friends who are constantly testing ideas, changing things, and figuring out what actually works.

Packages That Sell, Memberships That Stick & The Spray Tan Science You Need to Know

How do you create packages and memberships that clients actually want to buy without constantly discounting your services? In this episode, Natalie Finley joins Lauren and Katie for a very real conversation about making more money in your spray tan business while creating an even better experience for your clients. We get into how Natalie structures her packages and memberships, why expiration dates matter, creative ways to add value without immediately offering a discount, and how to make retail and aftercare feel like a natural part of the client experience instead of an awkward sales pitch. Then we get nerdy about spray tan solutions. We talk about choosing solutions for different skin tones and undertones, DMI, sensitivities and allergic reactions, bronzers, skincare ingredients, product formulation, and why having an actual chemist behind a formula matters more than most artists probably realize. We also somehow make our way into tipping, laundry, Alix Earle, personal branding, imperfect content, TV collaborations and plenty of random side conversations because... obviously. In this episode: • How to structure spray tan packages that encourage clients to come back more often • Membership pricing, perks and creative incentives • Why adding a gift can sometimes work better than giving a discount • How to sell more retail and aftercare without feeling pushy • Tips, gratuity and the client experience • Choosing solutions for pale, olive and harder-to-match skin tones • What DMI actually does in spray tan solutions • Whether clients can be sensitive or allergic to DMI • Bronzers, undertones and spray tan color theory • Why chemistry matters when developing spray tan products • The rise of skincare ingredients in sunless formulas • Social media, relatability and why imperfect content often connects more Chapters 00:00 Spray tan packages and memberships 04:07 Package caps and expiration dates 07:01 Membership pricing and benefits 09:59 Retail upselling and aftercare 15:01 Tips and gratuity 20:00 Creative membership incentives 25:00 Skin tones and solution selection 30:00 Olive and pale skin tones 35:01 Unique undertones and client-specific solutions 38:22 Can someone be allergic to DMI? 41:22 Bronzers and spray tan color science 45:16 Laundry tips for spray tan artists 48:24 Alix Earle, TikTok and personal branding 51:29 Why relatable content works 54:20 Spray tan industry collaborations 55:30 Closing thoughts Follow us on Instagram @dopaminehitspod for episode clips, behind-the-scenes conversations and more of the things we probably should not say on a microphone but do anyway. How to Make Business Easier Without Slowing Down Your Growth

This episode is basically a conversation about the things that are making business (and life) feel a whole lot easier for us right now. We’re talking about what we’re delegating, how we’re finding more time to actually work ON our businesses, and why sometimes paying for help isn’t an expense... it’s the thing that finally gives you room to grow. We also get into social media and the kind of content people actually want to see. Spoiler: it probably doesn’t need to be as polished as you think. We’re talking behind-the-scenes content, sharing more of your real life, using Canva to make content creation way less time-consuming, and how to use AI as a tool without suddenly sounding like a robot wrote your entire personality. And because none of us started a business just to be stressed about it 24/7, we’re also talking about taking actual breaks, making time for yourself, and finding ways to grow without constantly adding MORE to your plate. If business has been feeling a little too complicated lately, this one is for you. Come hang with us. 🤍 In this episode, we get into: Delegating the things that are stealing time from what actually grows your business Using childcare and other support without feeling like you have to “do it all” The social media content that’s creating real connection right now Why showing the imperfect, behind-the-scenes stuff can actually make people trust you more Making content creation faster and easier with Canva Using AI without losing your own voice Giving yourself permission to step away from your business sometimes Small changes that can give you more time, energy and brain space And if you made it all the way down here, I feel like we're basically friends now... so you might as well hit subscribe. 😂 It helps more beauty business owners find the show AND makes sure our next episode magically appears for you without you having to remember one more thing. Are We Overcomplicating Spray Tanning?

Somehow we went from the psychology of serial killers and dating safety to spray tan color theory, bronzers, DHA percentages, client retention, procrastination, mental health, and why sometimes you just need to do the dang hard thing. So… basically a normal episode for us. 😂 We’re talking about what actually makes clients come back, why the experience before AND after the appointment matters just as much as the tan itself, and the little details that can turn a one-time client into a loyal regular. We also get into troubleshooting some of the weird stuff spray tan artists deal with, like sunburns, uneven color, sensitive skin, bronzer debates, solution ingredients, and whether the industry needs stronger training standards. PLUS: travel plans, dance lessons, procrastination, motivation, dating as a single mom, content creation, and a few conversations that have absolutely nothing to do with spray tanning… until somehow they do. If you like your spray tan education with a side of unfiltered girl talk, this one is for you. 🎧

    Our First Guest: Father Fuji

In this hilarious and refreshingly candid episode of Dopamine Hits, Lauren, Katie, and Natalie sit down with Jim from Fuji Spray Sunless for a deep-dive conversation about spray tan equipment, customer service, and what it really takes to keep a sunless business running smoothly. What starts as a playful, chaotic interview quickly turns into a surprisingly insightful look at the science behind spray tan guns, the differences between turbine systems, common troubleshooting issues, and why regular maintenance matters more than most artists realize. Jim shares the story behind Fuji’s growth, how the company works with artists to develop new products, and why customer service is a core part of the brand’s reputation. The conversation also gets delightfully off-track with jokes, listener-style banter, and plenty of “Father Fuji” energy, making this episode equal parts educational and entertaining. If you’re a spray tan artist, beauty professional, or just love behind-the-scenes business stories with personality, this one delivers both laughs and practical takeaways.

It doesn’t. This episode is your reminder that confidence sells, experience matters, and undercharging is not a marketing strategy.

If you're going to copy me, at least tag me

Ever feel like someone is watching your business a little too closely? In this episode, we're diving into copycat culture in the sunless industry and entrepreneurship as a whole.
