[…] From the evidence they have found, forks were in somewhat common use from 2400 to 1900 BCE. Typically, these were made of bone. There's also some art evidence from a tomb carving from the Han Dynasty, wherein three hanging two pronged forks were drawn in a dining scene. The ancient Egyptians, the Romans and the Mycenaean Greeks also used forks, but in a large cooking utensil capacity. It seems that we wouldn't get the personal table fork until the Eastern Roman Empire, becoming common somewhere in the fourth century. But rather than spreading to the rest of the world, the fork became a social pariah. […]
