How One Reel Turned Into 600K Views and 14K Followers

Most photographers are hiding behind “style” and pricing secrets. Kenzie Rich is doing the opposite—and it’s exactly why her content is exploding, her client list is growing, and her teaching hits different.Chloe sits down with Kenzie, the self-described “anti-gatekeeper” of photography, for a no-fluff conversation about building a creative business that actually works. From 16 years behind the camera to going full-time four years ago to suddenly blowing up on Instagram after years of being stuck at 3K followers, Kenzie shares the mindset shifts and content moves that changed everything. You’ll discover why Kenzie refuses to box herself into one genre, how she turns client vision into editorial, high-contrast, high-saturation work, and why she treats photography like translation instead of performance. She breaks down her pre-production process, her approach to pricing commercial work transparently, and why she believes there’s enough work for everyone if creatives stop gatekeeping. Kenzie also shares the social media strategy that took one simple reel from zero to 600,000 views overnight and brought in 14,000 followers from a single post. She explains how she uses comment feedback as market research, why posing content outperforms lighting and camera tips, and how she’s turned Instagram into a real client engine—with 83.7% of her clients finding her there. Along the way, Chloe and Kenzie unpack creative gatekeeping, hate comments from male photographers, the pressure of visibility, and why showing your personality matters just as much as showing your portfolio. Kenzie also opens up about her self-taught journey, learning strobe only last year, living in Brazil, surviving a cult, and how curiosity has shaped every reinvention in her career. This episode is for photographers, creatives, and business owners who want more visibility, more bookings, and a more honest way to grow. If you’ve ever wondered how to turn attention into opportunity without selling out or playing small, this conversation is your permission slip.
