[…] There were several possible verdicts. Guilty of murder, guilty of manslaughter, not guilty by reason of insanity or not guilty. The judge told them that sentencing was nothing to do with them. They were not to worry about what punishment might follow. Their job was to apply the law to the evidence they had heard. He also reminded them that expert evidence was still only evidence. They were entitled to examine how an expert had reached an opinion, what information that opinion was based on and whether they accepted it.
