[…] And this is the relationship between ultra-nationalism and internationalism. Because of course, former research has pointed out that hyper-extreme nationalism has been a central feature of fascist ideology. When you think about ideas of national superiority, national hierarchies between peoples, racism, some form of territorial or at least ideological expansionism. These were all central elements of fascist ideology. But on the other hand, fascists historically tried to cooperate internationally with what they perceived as ideologically affiliated partners. They wanted to promote and achieve their political ideas and goals in collaboration with partners from abroad, centered on the idea of combating common enemies, such as, for example, liberals, Democrats, or conservative forces.
