What did the Noah Donohoe inquest establish? And what could it not explain?
In our Episode 11 finale, we examine the jury's verdict, 13 PSNI investigative failings and the questions that remain.
Noah Donohoe was 14 when he disappeared in Belfast on 21st June 2020. The inquest jury concluded that he died by drowning in a storm drain that Sunday evening. It identified police investigative failings which affected its ability to reach conclusions, but found that police errors did not contribute to his death.
Donal MacIntyre and forensic physician Professor Jason Payne-James revisit the timeline, CCTV, the search of the culvert and the forensic questions. The episode includes a recorded statement from Fiona Donohoe's solicitor, Niall Murphy, and the PSNI's response.

Noah Donohoe Episode 10: The Late Night Walkabout
Welcome back to Noah Donohoe: The Search For Truth. In episode 10, we examine CCTV showing Noah leaving his Belfast home in the early hours of 21st June 2020 and returning just over half an hour later, barefoot and without the flip-flops and headphones he had taken with him.
Donal MacIntyre and Professor Jason Payne-James examine the unanswered questions surrounding Noah’s late-night walk, why the footage was not viewed by police until 2022, what might have been learned had it been examined at the time, and Fiona Donohoe’s call to police when Noah failed to return home later that day.
Note: This episode was recorded before the inquest jury returned its findings on 15th September 2026.

Noah Donohoe Episode 9: The Injection Claim
Welcome back to Noah Donohoe: The Search For Truth. In Episode 9, we examine claims that Noah Donohoe was attacked and injected with drugs before his belongings were taken, and how those allegations were investigated.
Donal MacIntyre and Professor Jason Payne-James examine the statement Maria Nolan gave to KRW Law in December 2020, the later account of an anonymised witness known as Cipher 55, and the PSNI response. They also consider the medical evidence, including toxicology, the absence of an identified injection site at post-mortem, and whether drugs could account for Noah’s behaviour.
Content note: This episode discusses allegations of assault and drug administration involving a child.

Noah Donohoe Episode 8: What Happened to Noah's Rucksack?
Welcome back to Noah Donohoe: The Search For Truth. In episode 8, we follow one of the central unanswered questions in Noah Donohoe’s disappearance: what happened to the rucksack he was carrying when he left home on 21st June 2020?
Donal MacIntyre and Professor Jason Payne-James examine the CCTV sequence showing Noah with the rucksack before he entered an obscured walkway, and later without it. They trace the rucksack and laptop through accounts, including a visit to Cash Converters, calls to the PSNI, the search of Daryl Paul’s flat, and the eventual recovery of the laptop at Queen’s Quarter, opposite Fiona and Noah’s home.

Noah Donohoe Episode 7: Naked and Afraid
Why did Noah Donohoe remove his clothes before he disappeared on Sunday 21 June 2020?
Donal MacIntyre and Jason Payne-James examine the PSNI theory that a fall from Noah’s bicycle may have caused a head injury or concussion that could explain his later behaviour.
This episode retraces the fall at York Road and North Queen Street, witness accounts, the condition of Noah’s cycle helmet, the green North Face jacket left behind, gaps in available CCTV and the recovery of Noah’s mobile phone. It also examines an image recorded on the phone at about 6:51pm which is said to show the hand of an unknown person. We ask why that image was judged to have no evidential value and why no fingerprint or DNA examination was carried out on the phone.
Follow the series as we examine the unanswered questions around Noah’s disappearance and death.

Noah Donohoe Episode 6: The CCTV Camera Overlooking the Storm Drain
In this episode, we follow Noah Donohoe’s last known movements on Northwood Road and examine the third CCTV camera overlooking the storm-drain area.
What could that camera have captured, and why did attending officers say they did not consider it significant?
In this episode of Noah Donohoe: The Search For Truth, we reconstruct what witnesses said they saw as Noah cycled naked, where items of clothing were found, what attending officers said at the inquest about the third CCTV angle, and why the Community Rescue Service focused on the storm drain. We also hear Fiona Donohoe’s interpretation of the CCTV footage and examine what remains unexplained.

Noah Donohoe Episode 5: The Prison Confession
In Episode 5 of our investigation into the case of Noah Donohoe, we examine an extraordinary prison-cell confession, and ask how far its details can actually be tested against the forensic evidence.
A former prisoner, identified in the programme as Nathan, recounts what he says a cellmate told him about Noah. Donal MacIntyre and forensic physician Jason Payne-James examine that account alongside the pathology discussed in this series.
The alleged suspect approached during the investigation denied involvement. PSNI subsequently told the coroner that it had investigated the claim and found no merit in it.

Noah Donohoe Episode 4: What Happened After 6:08pm?
At 6:08pm on 21 June 2020, 14-year-old Noah Donohoe was last seen in Northwood Road, Belfast. In episode 4 of The Search For Truth: Noah Donohoe, we ask what may have happened next - and why he might have entered a storm drain he apparently did not know.
Donal MacIntyre and forensic physician Jason Payne-James examine Noah’s last known movements, the accessibility of the drain and witness reports from the surrounding area.
Residents described unusual screams and shrieks, one woman reported her door handle being rattled in the early hours, and another sighting involved a person moving around with a torch.

Noah Donohoe Episode 3: Inside the Storm Drain
Could Noah Donohoe have been found alive if the storm-drain search had progressed differently?
In Episode 3 of Noah Donohoe: The Search for Truth, Donal MacIntyre and Jason Payne-James examine the Belfast storm-drain route where Noah's body was recovered six days after he disappeared.
Donal enters sections of the drainage system to test what travelling through it would physically involve, examining the darkness, access points, manholes, light, sound and tidal conditions. Jason considers the effects that cold, water, injury and time underground could have had on Noah.
The episode also reconstructs the search timeline: when the drain was identified as an area of interest. How sections of the system were examined. Why the presenters believe important questions remain about whether Noah could have been found sooner.
Fiona Donohoe describes her concerns about the search strategy. The podcast also returns to the handprints discussed earlier in the series and examines alternative explanations for how Noah came to be where his body was recovered.

Noah Donohoe Episode 2: The Handprints Inside the Storm Drain
Reported handprints and finger marks were seen inside the storm drain near where Noah Donohoe was found. But why weren’t they specifically photographed and measured?
In Episode 2 of our investigation into the death of Noah Donohoe, investigative reporter Donal McIntyre and forensic physician Jason Payne-James examine the testimony surrounding those reported marks, the limitations of the available recording, tidal movement inside the north Belfast storm drain and the timeline of the search.

Noah Donohoe Episode 1: The Search for Truth
Noah Donohoe was 14 when he disappeared in Belfast in June 2020. Six days later, his body was recovered from a storm drain in North Belfast.
In Episode 1 of Noah Donohoe: The Search for Truth, investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre and forensic physician Professor Jason Payne-James examine what the available forensic evidence can, and cannot, establish about the circumstances of Noah's death.
They examine the condition in which Noah's body was found, the post-mortem conclusion of drowning, the absence of a water sample for comparison, documentation of the recovery scene and the injuries recorded on Noah's body.
The episode also hears from Noah's family and from the funeral directors who prepared his body, as the series begins to examine the questions that remain around this case.
