[…] They're big and they're, you know, big, strong, powerful buildings, but they're beautiful and they add greatly to a community. The president also said, and I quote, I would like to have data centers. It doesn't mean I want them right next to my house. but certainly I like them in my county. Well, sure. Imagine living next to one of these hyperscale data centers. They run all day and night. Their generators and cooling systems can create constant noise and air pollution. Depending on where and how they're built, these data centers can consume enormous amounts of water. And because they also consume enormous amounts of electricity, data centers can require billions in new power plants, transmission lines, substations, pipelines, generators, costs that can end up on everyone else's utility bills, which is why the vast majority of Americans aren't sold on data centers. […]
