It's actually, they get grants and contracts from the government. The government subsidizes their enrollment via student loans. The universities are deeply, deeply intertwined with the federal government, with the US taxpayer. And that comes with obligations. And one of those obligations that the universities for a long time basically upheld was that the universities would be places that supported the basic values and traditions of American society, of our system of governance, of our, dare I say, culture.
