[…] Edema in the context of cancer can accumulate where normal blood and lymphatic circulation is obstructed, maybe because of scarring or because the person has to be sedentary or some other kind of short-term injury. This kind of regular edema can become severe, but it also responds to the kinds of interventions that we use with regular old garden variety edema. Lymphedema, not the same. Lymphedema is the accumulation of protein-rich fluid in interstitial spaces that come about as a result of lymphatic system dysfunction, which is to say the destruction or removal of lymph nodes. then this protein-rich fluid that's accumulating between the cells, it's hydrophilic.
