[…] So the idea that if people are blamed less, they will be stigmatized less has some validity to it. But actually, despite, you know, you know, over the last 20 years or so, rising endorsement amongst the public of, you know, disease models of addiction, stigma hasn't actually declined. In some measures, it's actually even gone up. So yeah, it's a really complex, complex beast. And yeah, we have to kind of keep kind of going and trying to understand it. But yeah, so blame is one important stereotype, but we can't rely on just challenging the stereotypes around addiction and expecting that to resolve stigma, the motives and the correlates are so many more and so many more complex than just any single negative stereotype.
