It's also completely separate from the International Court of Justice, or the ICJ, which is a part of the UN and settles disputes between countries. So again, the ICC's job is to try individuals, whether they're political leaders, heads of state, soldiers, or even civilians. But it focuses its efforts on, quote, those most responsible for the crimes it prosecutes. But the ICC doesn't have guaranteed authority everywhere over everyone. It's meant to be a court of last resort, where national courts cannot or will not prosecute criminals themselves. […]
