[…] Right, and so that meant John B. Hood was presented with an opportunity to emulate his hero, Robert E. Lee, by recreating Lee's famous plan for victory at the Battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863. There, Joe Hooker, then commanding the Army of the Potomac, had similarly left a flank in the air, and Lee had sent Stonewall Jackson on a roundabout flanking march to surprise the Yankees and roll up their line like a blanket. At the time, Hood's division, along with most of Longstreet's troops, had been on detached duty in Southside, Virginia, and so he'd missed Chancellorsville, But here, outside Atlanta, Hood intended to duplicate Lee's famous victory.
