The failure was basically a flexible hose. One of the things about submarines is you want to be out there and you want to be as quiet as you possibly can. You do need to operate a lot of machinery on board, so you want to isolate that machinery from the hull so that the noise from the machinery doesn't vibrate out into the ocean. One of the ways that we do that is rather than connecting hard pipes from the system to the hull, there's pressure rated flexible hoses and they just create that sort of acoustic barrier between the machinery and the hull.
