[…] That's the crucial life ingredient for fish, insects and other aquatic life. As summers get hotter and the water holds less oxygen, that becomes a serious risk. We see that whenever the water temperature in the Thames goes above 20 degrees, we get this huge proliferation in blue-green algae numbers. This type of algae really respond to high water temperatures Blue-green algae thrive in warm, slow-moving water. In large blooms they can harm aquatic life, as well as posing risks to people, dogs and other animals. The Thames is especially vulnerable because in many places it no longer behaves like a free-flowing river. […]
