About CPTSD Medicine Podcast

The CPTSD podcast for adults who grew up in dysfunctional families and are done repeating the pattern in their adult relationships. When you grow up in a house full of trauma, you develop a lot of coping skills just to survive, and it turns out what was adaptive then isn't so helpful in adult romantic relationships. I'm Dr. Tanner Wallace, former professor turned IFS Certified Practitioner, and in this podcast I share what I've learned about relational recovery when you suffer with CPTSD, so that you don't keep getting your heart shattered into a million pieces. Whether you've just broken up with the person you thought was the love of your life, or you're in a relationship and considering divorce, this can be your level-up moment, the one where you finally heal what is causing you so much emotional pain. It won't be easy, but you can do it, and I'll be right here with you. When you're ready for more than the podcast, the work continues at cptsdmedicine.com.

010. When You Can't Say Goodbye

Published 3 Nov 2026 · Transcript excerpt

[…] Completion, containment, huge aspect of a healing journey. But then the second one, it's safe to be me. Equally important as I'm okay no matter what. It's safe to be me is an invitation into true self expression. This is who I was meant to be without the trauma and conditioning. If I was not born into a family with parents, biological parents, running trauma energies, having their own complex trauma, then I would have come to discover my unique contributions, my unique gifts, my unique essence. And that is also something to be restored, reclaimed, reinstated as you move to the other side of having complex trauma and in a place of sovereignty. […]
