[…] Somebody said wherever the parent is stuck, the child eventually internalizes that as a roadmap. And they either repeat it, which is very common, or they spend a lifetime trying to get away from it. But there is a way of being that a parent will avoid things that they were told to avoid, certain emotions. Maybe it was anger. Maybe it was feeling sad. Maybe they were told if they were angry, they were being unreasonable. Or if they were sad, they were being a victim. When the real process with those two little examples that I just gave is more likely to be explained by the parent's inability to incorporate parts of themselves, parts of their human experience, because their parents taught them that it was not okay.
