Hanlu, Cold Dew is the 17th solar term and the first to carry the word "cold." As an ancient book explains: "The dew becomes cold and is about to freeze." This is where the name comes from. The ancients measured the depth of autumn by the dew. As the dew turns from white to cold, the temperature drops significantly.
