Chicago Bears to Hammond, TaylorMade Expansion, Riley Lung Device
Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. says the Chicago Bears are looking at more than one potential stadium site in his city, even as Illinois Governor JB Pritzker pushes for a special legislative session to keep the team in-state. McDermott tells host Gerry Dick the deal is close but not final, and the city won't celebrate until there are shovels in the ground. Also this week, TaylorMade breaks ground on a nearly $60 million warehouse and distribution expansion in Evansville, a move the golf equipment giant says allows it to reach 80% of its customers within three days. The investment is part of a broader wave of economic momentum in Southwest Indiana, including a new Ohio River bridge connecting Evansville to Henderson, Kentucky, and more than $100 million in recent local deals. In the Business of Health, Riley Children's Hospital pediatric pulmonologist Dr. Erick Forno has developed a smartphone attachment called Aware that uses sonar technology to measure lung function at home. Indiana's Data Center Boom, Migration Surge, and New Attractions
Indiana is cementing itself as a national hub for artificial intelligence infrastructure, with more than 90 data centers operating, planned, or under construction across the state. Amazon Web Services alone has committed over $33 billion to Indiana data centers, with Google, Microsoft, and Meta also building or operating campuses statewide. Paul Brenner, interim director of the Notre Dame Center for Research Computing, explains why Indiana's power infrastructure, available land, and state leadership make it competitive with established data center markets like Virginia and Texas. The Indiana Chamber of Commerce is hosting forums statewide to address community concerns about energy use, water consumption, and land use as development accelerates. Also this week, Make My Move co-founder and COO Evan Hawkins joins host Gerry Dick to mark five years and nearly 2,400 new residents attracted to Indiana through the remote-work relocation program. Half of those movers had no prior connection to the state. Communities like Muncie, Jasper, and Evansville are among the top destinations. Business of Health reporter Kylie Veleta covers a $150 million radiopharmaceutical plant coming to Whitestown from RayzeBio, a Boston Scientific distribution facility planned for Plainfield, and the story of 19-year-old IU Kelley School of Business student Grant Myers, who built a creatine supplement brand now sold at Grand Park, the largest youth sports complex in the country. Chicago Bears Stadium Battle, Purdue Motorsports and Indiana Health
The Chicago Bears' stadium decision is coming down to the wire, and Hammond, Indiana, is making its case. Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. breaks down why Indiana's $1 billion incentive package, assembled months ago, may give the state a decisive edge over Illinois as the Illinois legislature races toward a deadline with no deal in place.Northwest Indiana Forum CEO Heather Ennis also weighs in on how the Bears pursuit has already elevated the region's national profile, regardless of the final outcome. Lake County commissioners have separately approved a $137 million convention center development agreement next to the Hard Rock Casino in Gary, adding another major project to the region's momentum. On the healthcare front, Community Health Network has opened a concierge executive physical clinic in Carmel designed for C-suite professionals. The two-to-three-hour appointment includes advanced lab work, EKG, imaging, and cancer screening through the Galleri early detection test. Business of Health reporter Kylie Veleta reports on the growing trend and what a recent Johns Hopkins study found about concierge medicine's rapid expansion. Purdue University's motorsports engineering program, the only accredited undergraduate program of its kind in the country, is profiled from its home inside Dallara's Speedway headquarters. IMS and IndyCar President Doug Boles and 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan, now team principal at Arrow McLaren, discuss Indiana's pull for racing talent and investment.
