Hi. I’m Stacee, and although recently diagnosed, I’ve been living with OCD for the better part of 30 years. Along with my husband Marc, welcome to our podcast, Living Uncertain, where we discuss all things Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and its treatment, Exposure-Response Prevention (ERP) It is our hope that in sharing our story, through the lens of navigating OCD with your significant other, growth is possible, in ways that may have been unimaginable before. No one is an island. We strive to help those with OCD realize that support outside of therapy is just as crucial as ERP itself in guiding you to true healing.

How we learned to tell check-ins from real conversations
(OCD)(Episode 35)
What if one of the trickiest parts of OCD recovery is figuring out whether a question is an invitation to connect—or a search for reassurance? Marc and Stacee talk candidly about how they’re learning to spot the difference and communicate through the gray areas together.
They explore how reassurance-seeking can turn ordinary questions into compulsions, why Marc sometimes responds with “I don’t know” or “I’m not sure,” and how sitting with uncertainty can help interrupt the cycle. Stacee also reflects on the challenge of telling when organizing or redecorating is something she genuinely enjoys—and when it may be an attempt to feel more in control.
With humor and honesty, they share how ERP continues to shape their conversations, even after intensive treatment, and how life stress can make OCD feel louder. Their experience is a reminder that recovery is an ongoing process of noticing intentions, making room for uncertainty, and learning how to support one another without feeding the loop.

OCD Recovery Isn’t a Cure: Why the Hard Weeks Still Matter (OCD)(Episode 34)
OCD recovery is never a straight line, and this week’s episode is a brutally honest reminder of what that actually looks like in real life. Stacee and Marc open up about a harder stretch in their ERP journey, where intrusive thoughts, mental compulsions, and the pressure to control everything collide with surgery, disrupted routines, and the everyday chaos of family life.
Stacee shares what it feels like when OCD latches onto the uncomfortable gray areas—the moments where reassurance doesn’t stick, checking isn’t an option, and rumination starts to spiral in the middle of the night. Marc brings the perspective of a spouse who has been part of the therapy process from the beginning, helping bring ERP tools into their home while supporting Stacee through the messier, less predictable weeks.

How OCD Went From Running Their Marriage to Sitting in the Back Seat (OCD)(Episode 34)
OCD doesn’t just live in your head—it can take over your whole household. Marc and Stacee share the real test of recovery: what happens when life gets chaotic again, the pressure spikes, and you have to show up differently than you ever could before.
With Marc facing a second eye surgery and Stacee stepping into more responsibility at home, this episode reveals the quiet wins that ERP makes possible—less panic, less looping, less fear of uncertainty, and more confidence in the middle of the mess. It’s a raw look at how treatment changes not just symptoms, but marriage, parenting, and the way a family handles crisis.
