mRNA im Einsatz bei Proteinmangelkrankheiten
Seit den Corona-Impfstoffen sind mRNAs vielen Menschen ein Begriff. Als „Baupläne“ zeigen sie Zellen, wie man ein bestimmtes Protein bildet, z.B. das Spikeprotein des Coronavirus. Danach werden sie vom Körper wieder abgebaut. Die potenziellen Anwendungsgebiete gehen aber weit über Impfstoffe hinaus: Technisch hergestellte und von außen zugeführte mRNAs könnten auch Menschen helfen, in deren Körper ein bestimmtes Protein defekt ist oder fehlt. Entsorgen statt Blockieren. PROTAC-Wirkstoffe im Praxistest
Proteine sind zentrale Bausteine für viele Vorgänge im Körper. Fehlfunktionierende Proteine sind aber auch verantwortlich für Krankheiten; und manche von ihnen lassen sich einfach nicht stoppen. An diesem Punkt setzen Medikamente mit sogenannten PROTACS an. Sie können den Abbau der problematischen Proteine erzwingen. Dadurch können sie bei Krebs und anderen schweren Erkrankungen neue Behandlungsoptionen eröffnen.
