Welcome to Snail & Pace, the running podcast where elite performance meets everyday reality - brought to you by Sportlink Running & Fitness.
Hosted by Logan Smith, one of Norfolk’s fastest marathon runners, and Mark Armstrong, Sportlink’s brand manager and self-proclaimed “professional trier”, Snail & Pace dives into the real world of running from both ends of the pack.
Each episode brings you:
Honest training updates (elite and very-not-elite)
Running icks, mishaps & the stuff every runner secretly thinks
Shoe chat, kit deep-dives & expert insight from inside Sportlink
Big running stories from Norfolk and beyond
Real talk about motivation, body management and why we keep showing up
Whether you’re chasing PBs, chasing your mates, or just trying to survive winter miles, this is the podcast for runners who love the sport - even when it’s chaos.
Snail & Pace: because every runner has a story, no matter how fast they go.
Snail & Pace episode 22: PBs, blow-ups and brutal honesty
Two half marathons… two very different outcomes.
We’ve also got one rather uncomfortable training review.
This week, Logan takes us inside his brilliant Manchester Half Marathon, where he finished sixth in 63:37, setting a new PB, club record and county record – and somehow became known to the TV audience as an ultra runner.
Meanwhile, Mark reflects on a difficult Peterborough Half, where an ambitious start ended in another painful final few miles.
Logan doesn’t hold back as the pair dissect Mark’s recent training, race-heavy schedule and marathon ambitions, with Verona now just four weeks away.
Is the problem fitness, recovery, pacing or simply trying to do too much?
There’s also a round-up of local performances at Peterborough and Chester, plus this week’s running icks.

Snail & Pace episode 21: Pacing, PB chasing and sandbagging sessions
Mark gets more than he bargained for after agreeing to pace a friend at the Bure Valley 10, while Logan is deep into another big training block ahead of the Manchester Half Marathon.
There’s plenty to unpack from Mark’s 10-mile race, including the slight problem of agreeing to pace someone to a time based on fitness he might not currently possess.
Meanwhile, Logan talks through another sizeable week of training, his race-shoe dilemma and a 45-minute out-and-back tempo that descends into accusations of some highly questionable sandbagging from certain members of the distance squad.
There’s also talk of racing, pacing, tired legs and the usual disagreements that come with putting a very fast runner and a considerably less fast runner behind two microphones.

Snail & Pace - episode 20: Mark gets humbled by the Round Norfolk Relay
The Round Norfolk Relay has a habit of finding you out. This time, it was Mark's turn.
In Episode 20 of Snail & Pace, Mark talks through a rather painful Stage 2 from Hunstanton to Burnham Overy Staithe - starting too hard, discovering just how different racing quickly over trails is to running on the road, and eventually staggering across the finish having completely emptied the tank.
Logan, meanwhile, is riding the momentum from his brilliant Run Norwich performance. He takes us inside a 105-mile training week featuring a big track session, a 20-mile Sunday and plenty more as attention turns towards the Manchester Half Marathon.
There's also chat about cross-training when running isn't playing ball, Run Norwich age-group performances, the realities of producing running content for YouTube and another conundrum: would Logan take the ability to run a 2:08 marathon if every run afterwards felt like the final 10K of a marathon?
His answer probably won't surprise you.
Plus, the Running Icks return as we get into AI predictions in athletics and why sometimes a bit of actual human common sense wouldn't go amiss.
Running, racing, moaning about running and two blokes having a chinwag about it.
