   Heal Your Gut without the Wellness Bullshit - Madisen Smith, MScN

   What if the stress of trying to be healthy is actually part of what’s holding you back? That question sits at the center of Madisen Smith’s work. Madisen isn’t selling another restrictive nutrition protocol. Her work is built around helping people move away from elimination diets, supplement-heavy regimens, fear of foods, constant testing, and the endless search for one more “root cause” — toward a more resilient gut, greater self-trust, and a less anxious relationship with eating and healing. She draws heavily from her own experience with IBS, recurrent SIBO, severe bloating, food restriction, and years of escalating wellness protocols that left her doing everything “right” on paper while feeling increasingly unwell. After earning a Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition, she ultimately had to question much of what she had learned about healing in order to rebuild her health in a way that made her life bigger instead of smaller. Madisen Smith, MScN, is a gut-health coach and founder of The Gut Goddess.    Defund Systemic Healthcare Waste: Making Wiser Healthcare Investments

   What if protecting your health also means becoming much more intentional about where your healthcare dollars go? In this episode of The Architecture of Health, I talk with Kevin Decker, RN, who brings 25 years of nursing experience across emergency care, ICU, med-surg, bedside nursing and managed care. He has seen the American healthcare system from both the patient-care side and the insurance side. Our conversation follows the money. Why does the United States spend so much on healthcare while so many families still face enormous premiums, deductibles, denied claims and medical debt? How much of what we spend actually supports better health—and how much feeds administrative complexity, distorted incentives and systemic waste? We explore: • Why healthcare administrative costs have become so enormous • Insurance denials—and why appealing a denial can matter • PBMs, pharmacy pricing and vertical integration • Why paying cash can sometimes cost less than using insurance • How physician-training policies contributed to today’s doctor shortage • The Medicare residency cap created by the 1997 Balanced Budget Act • Rising family health-insurance costs • Health-sharing programs: potential advantages and important limitations • The difference between investing in health and simply consuming more healthcare • Why avoiding the medical system entirely can also be dangerous • Prevention, personal responsibility and healthcare sovereignty • How to preserve more of your resources for the things that actually support your health This is not an argument against medicine. Emergency medicine, surgery and other medical interventions can be extraordinary and lifesaving when they are truly needed. I share my own experience of delaying treatment because of cost until an infection became dangerously serious.    Censorship, Misinformation, & Informed Consent with Jeremy R. Hammond

   What happens when the institutions we trust to determine what is true also have the power to silence people who challenge them? Independent journalist, researcher and author Jeremy R. Hammond joins me for a provocative conversation about censorship, public-health messaging, informed consent—and how difficult it has become to distinguish legitimate disagreement from “misinformation.” We dig into examples from COVID-era censorship, natural immunity, vaccine research, observational studies, healthy-user bias, lockdowns, the lab-origin debate and the relationship between government agencies, media and industry. But the larger question is bigger than COVID: How do we learn to think for ourselves when information is overwhelming, institutions disagree, algorithms reward outrage, and every one of us has confirmation bias? Jeremy makes the case for going back to primary sources, examining how studies are actually designed, looking for conflicting evidence and learning to reconcile it rather than simply choosing the narrative we already prefer.
