[…] What if you actually put it into practice and let the chips fall where they may? What would that mean? It means surrendering control of your life to a principle bigger than yourself. It means I am no longer going to put myself in the role of determining whether it's appropriate to lie or tell the truth in any given situation. I'm just going to have a principle of always telling the truth, and I'm going to trust that that will be the best outcome for all involved. Truth is probably the most common principle that is written about by the philosophers that I mentioned. Alexander Solzhenitsyn is another wonderful example of someone who writes incredibly evocatively about the principle of truth and his experience in the Russian gulags. […]
