[…] So you may remember that Russia's escalated attack on Ukraine's economy and they've included strikes on publishers' warehouses and printing houses. According to the Cultural Ministry, financial losses for the Ukrainian book industry have already reached at least 32 million dollars. On August 16, a Russian attack on Kyiv led to a massive fire breaking out at the Pochina book market, which destroyed several rows of stalls, books, vendors' property. The Pochina market was founded in 1997. It was once Ukraine's largest book market with hundreds of stalls from more than 120 publishers. So clearly, yet again, a way to attack Ukrainian culture, Ukrainian identity, that very much echoes in a way the executive renaissance from the 30s, where Ukrainian writers, Ukrainian poets who were writing in Ukrainian were rounded up by Putin and either sent to Siberia or executed.
