[…] And so in all of these situations, the body is very much responding to implicit memory. And in this way, the body really does keep the score, right? If by the score, we mean the body possesses, the body holds and responds to implicit learnings, implicit memory. So the body remembers suffering from the past and then responds according to whatever feels most emotionally necessary and protective based on those past experiences. But what's tricky about this is that it's not really that the body remembers like as a separate entity from the brain, right? It's not that the body just has its own memory system. […]
