EP. 637『＠宇治 、其ノ四 - 鮎とウッティー』
<p>宇治川を眺めていると、中州の形が「仁」という漢字のように見えました。仁とはもともと親子の愛情を表す言葉でしたが、孔子はそこに広く人を思いやる心という意味を与えました。そんなことを考えながら、宇治の風土や文化に流れる優しさについて思いを巡らせます。宇治では初夏になると鮎の季節を迎え、伝統的な鵜飼が行われます。なかでも宇治の鵜飼は、人工孵化で生まれたウミウを女性鵜匠たちが育て、鵜と人との深い信頼関係によって成り立っていることが特徴です。縄を付けずに放たれた鵜が鮎をくわえて船へ戻り、自ら鵜匠のもとへ運んでくる姿には、親子のような絆が感じられます。また宇治は『源氏物語』宇治十帖の舞台でもあります。浮舟の物語には恋愛だけでなく、母への思慕や人間の孤独、心の苦悩が色濃く描かれています。宇治川の流れや鵜飼の風景を通して、宇治という土地が持つ深い優しさと、人の心を包み込むような魅力について思いを巡らせました。<br></p>

EP. 636『＠宇治 、其ノ三 - 白身魚と宇治の御茶』
<p>以前から訪れたいと思っていた宇治を訪ね、宇治橋断碑をみました。宇治橋断碑は日本現存最古級の石碑の一つで、大化の改新の翌年である646年に架けられた宇治橋を記念して建てられました。現在は三分の一ほどしか残っていませんが、宇治橋建立の記録は複数の歴史資料にも残されており、古代から交通の要衝だった宇治の歴史を今に伝えています。碑文には、流れの速い宇治川を渡れず人々が困っていたため橋が架けられたことが記されています。橋は人と人、場所と場所を結ぶ存在です。一方で宇治は茶どころとしても知られています。宇治のお茶をいただきながら、鯛とヒラメのお造りをいただくと、白身のお魚の甘みがもっと白くなるような感じがしました。宇治茶と静岡・掛川のお茶を飲み比べながら、それぞれの味わいの違いについて考えます。宇治茶には心を静めるような穏やかさがあり、まるで障子越しの柔らかな光のような静けさを感じます。橋や箸、そして「端」という言葉に共通する“つなぐ”というイメージがします。宇治のお茶が人を別の世界へ導く架け橋のような存在であるんだなと思います。<br></p>

EP. 635『＠宇治 、其ノ二 - 抹茶豆腐と鳳凰堂』
<p>雨の降り始めた宇治を訪れ、宇治川沿いで1840年創業の老舗料理店の二階から川の流れを眺め、源氏物語の「宇治十帖」に思いを巡らせました。宇治は古くから都を離れた人々が集う場所ともされ、その地名も「憂い」に由来するという説があります。そんな人々の不安や悲しみに寄り添うように建つのが平等院鳳凰堂です。平安時代、人々は末法思想により世の終わりへの恐怖を抱いていました。栄華を極めた藤原道長もまた、権力だけでは人々を救えないことを知り、平等院鳳凰堂の建立を通じて新たな平和への願いを託したといわれています。旅の締めくくりには宇治ならではのお茶料理を味わいます。三日かけて作られる抹茶豆腐は、美しい新緑色とやさしい風味が印象的で、宇治の歴史や信仰の世界と重なり合うような深い余韻を残してくれました。<br></p>
